Rick Marzan, the founder and creator of Great Pee Dee Hunt Club/Great Pee Dee Dreams, a non-profit established in 2024.
Rick resides in Charleston, South Carolina, and also spends time in Sweden. Before founding the Great Pee Dee Hunt Club, Marzan made a name for himself in the pizza industry with the opening of Noah’s Antica Pizzeria in South Carolina from 2012 to 2015, which was named after his son. Marzan’s diverse background includes playing football at the University of Kentucky, transitioning to minor league baseball, working in the corporate world, and later studying theater in New York. During his time in baseball, Marzan had a co-starring role in the 1988 comedy “Bull Durham” alongside Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon, playing the character of Jose, a superstitious player with a cursed glove and chicken bone cross. Additionally, he appeared on the show ER with George Clooney for two years. Despite spending 24 years in California, Marzan never felt like he fit in. Marzan’s passion for pizza and culinary arts grew through his relationship with Pepe Miele, the president of the North American branch of Vera Pizza Napoletana, an international organization established in 1984 to promote and protect authentic Neapolitan pizza. “Pepe taught me the art of making Neapolitan pizza, and I became very passionate about the process,” Marzan stated. “In February 2010, I packed my truck and headed back across the country. During that time, I formulated my business plan.” Marzan believes that his Neapolitan pizza stands out due to the quality of the tomatoes and flour imported from Italy, as well as his use of a special mixer for the dough. His popular pizza, the “Pizza Noah,” features tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, bacon, and blueberries. Marzan explained, “It takes time to experiment with different ingredients and water, but through trial and error, I found what works. Instead of trying to do many things well, we aim to excel in one thing.” This philosophy also applies to the hunt club. Marzan is passionate about promoting the hunt club and non-profit for Wounded Warriors and First Responders to the world. “When I’m cooking, it’s like a performance,” he expressed. “It feels like being back on stage and putting my heart into the work I’ve created. It’s an art form.” “When I am at the club, it’s about connecting with nature and God. It’s my sanctuary.”
Vice-President
Scott Howard was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, and moved to Florence, South Carolina, at a very young age. He graduated from West Florence High School in 1999 and went on to receive a degree in business management and a master gunsmith certification. Presently, he is the CEO/Owner of Howards Premium Ammo LLC based in South Carolina and MLK Technologies LLC based in Michigan. Scott also has a vast background in transportation and still does consulting work for certain Fortune 500 trucking companies in the United States. From a young age, Scott developed a passion for the outdoors. He started fishing at the age of 3 with his father and later participated in local bass tournaments across South Carolina, achieving several wins. Scott officially began hunting at the age of 11, harvesting his first buck, which fueled his overwhelming passion for the sport. To date, he has harvested over 350 deer, with 25 of them considered trophies, each leaving lasting memories. While deer hunting has been a core tradition, Scott was introduced to bird and waterfowl hunting at the age of 18, which quickly became his true passion and continues to be so today. Scott has had the opportunity to hunt in 14 states for waterfowl, quail, and pheasant, building a wealth of experiences and connections with great people and dogs along the way. Two of his personal dogs have earned titles for waterfowl retrieval and pointing. Additionally, about five years ago, Scott ventured into hog hunting and has since had over 150 kills, including two hogs over 400 pounds. Scott has passed on his love for hunting to his children, both of whom harvested their first deer at the age of 5, continuing the hunting tradition in the family.
